Carew WI’s centenary year has come to an end, and to mark the occasion on October 2 at the Hayloft, Honey’s Park, Milton - a plaque was unveiled to commemorate their first meeting place 100 years ago.

Almost all members attended to witness this, and also present was Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Annabel Trollope-Bellew the Carew Estate owners and Kathryn Perkins, Estate Land Manager.

The plaque was unveiled by Mrs. Janet Arthur long standing member of 49 years; and our oldest member, 90 year old, Mrs. Marjorie Davies.

After the unveiling tea and biscuits were served at Osborne House, Milton.

On the same evening in St Mary’s Church, Carew Cheriton a celebratory service was held, during which three kneelers were dedicated and presented to the ministers for St Mary’s Church Carew Cheriton, Carew Wesley Chapel and Pisgah Chapel. These were worked by all the members of Carew WI.

During the singing of the last hymn 100 ‘T’ lights spelling out Carew WI - 100 Years were lit and a collection made which will be donated to Paul Sartori Hospice.

Following the service refreshments were served to the congregation by Carew WI members.

The following evening a birthday dinner was held at Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth, where members and guests enjoyed a meal followed by entertainment provided by Mr. Clive Edwards.

The birthday cake was cut which was decorated with 60 pink roses along with 40 more edible roses representing the 100 theme.

The pink rose being the ‘Women’s Institute’s’ rose cultivated in 2015 to celebrate 100 years of WI in Britain and called the centenary rose.

Members would also like to thank all those who attended their different functions throughout the last year and a very big thank you to the Tenby Observer for their reports over that period.
