They say there’s a novel in all of us, but have you already written one and never tried to get it published?

This year’s Narberth Book Fair could have the answer as it’s offering bookable, one-to-one ‘Meet the Editor’ sessions for all aspiring writers.

Caroline Oakley from Honno Press and Carly Holmes of Parthian together with Chris Jones of Cambrian Publishing and Tony Fyler from Jefferson Franklin

Editing will be providing practical advice and constructive feedback on synopses submitted by the beginning of September.

“It is so rewarding to help writers hone their skills and to share their delight if their books are read and loved,” said Caroline, who is looking forward to meeting writers in Narberth.

Details of costs and how to book a slot are available on the website www.narberthbookfair.co.uk.

Building on the success of the past two years, the Narberth Book Fair will be a two-day event this time, on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, from 9.30 am to 4 pm at the Queen’s Hall and will again coincide with the ever popular Narberth Food Festival.

The fair brings together 50 authors from across Wales and beyond, all ready to chat, sign and sell their books.

Entry to the fair is free as are the associated workshop sessions, on Creating Characters, Writing for Children and Historical Fiction Research, to name but a few, although booking a place is advised as numbers are limited (see website for full list of all workshops).

All genres will be represented at the fair and writers attending this year include historical fiction novelist Lazarus Carpenter, detective crime writer Cheryl Rees-Price, Judith Barrow, family saga and contemporary fiction author, Colin Parsons, children’s science fantasy whizz and psychological crime writer Thorne Moore.

If you don’t have time to pen an entire novel, then why not try a very short story with an entry for the Flash Fiction competition.

Adults (over 16) are asked to complete the story: ’I didn’t say it was your fault. I said I was going to blame you because...’ in just 100 words and children (under16), are challenged to write a 50 word story to follow: ‘I opened the book and...’.

The closing date for both competitions is Monday, August 19 and winners will be announced on Saturday, September 14.

Entries, with your name and address or contact details (and your age, if a child) to: [email protected] or by post to NBF Competition, Saddleworth House, Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty, SA68 0XX.
