Sir,
We have been complaining to PCC all this season regarding the council placing ‘Dogs allowed signs’ within the main family area on Tenby‘s South Beach. This is also the area where the lifeguards place the flags for safe swimming.
We’ve complained many times to the council that it was totally unacceptable to have a mixture of uncontrolled dogs and families with very young children in the same beach area. PCC in their wisdom have stated that dog wardens will patrol the area vigorously. How they would do this was beyond us as they only employ three, yes three, wardens for the whole of Pembrokeshire.
After doing some investigating and talking to the Blue Flag organisation, it’s been revealed that PCC have broken one of its main criteria to achieve Blue Flag status regarding dog control. Basically, to achieve Blue Flag status, no dogs should be allowed on the beach.
Now I suppose it’s up to the town and county council to decide what’s more important. The reputation of Tenby’s blue flag status to be a safe place for families and children, or a play area for uncontrolled dogs.
Going on recent performances, I wouldn’t be surprised that they support the dog option, seeing as PCC are notorious for shooting themselves in the foot.
DBC,
Culver Park,
Tenby.
