Span Arts continues its exciting series of free Art Appetisers workshops this weekend, with Mindfulness and Poetry in Clarbeston Road Hall and the Span Arts building, Narbert, on Sunday.

With roots in Buddhist meditation, the concept of mindfulness has been proven to reduce stress and improve physical and mental health. Having entered the mainstream in recent years, it is now taught in schools, hospitals and many workplaces around the country.

The workshop will be led by Heather Fish, who runs Mindful Working Wales. For the past 18 months, Heather has been researching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and its application within workplaces.

Mindfulness is a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we're sensing in the present moment, rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.

Arts Appetisers is a series of free workshops, funded by PAVS offering bitesize arts activities for people of all backgrounds, ages and experience. The aim is to reduce social isolation in rural areas through art activities.

Delivered by professional artists, previous workshops have included clowning, kinetic drawing and shadow puppetry. Continuing through until the New Year, upcoming workshops will feature clog dancing, as well as festive-themed activities.

Mindfulness and Poetry is open to everyone from the age of eight upwards. Children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be free tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
