Saundersfoot’s Regency Hall is celebrating its sixth anniversary with an open day to showcase to the community what the venue has to offer.

The hall, re-built at a cost of £1.4m, was officially opened in September 2013 by the then Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, the Hon. Robin Lewis, whose late father, Lord Merthyr, opened the original Regency Hall in 1960. The hall’s admin and marketing manager, Emma Price, said that the open day on Saturday (March 23), is being staged “as a thank-you for all who support us, whether it be attending classes and events, or as a class tutor.”

She added: “This is an opportunity for all involved to showcase their classes or charities, and for interested members of the community to visit and see what the hall has to offer.”

In the last five years, the hall has developed into a focal point for the community, with the volunteer catering team making an increase in catering events possible. The main hall is popular for weddings, birthday parties, christenings and conferences and many local branches of registered charities hold their meetings and fundraising events at the hall.

The last year has also seen the hall receive a licence to sell alcohol, a 5* Food Hygiene rating and an emergency defibrillator unit, kindly donated by the Friends of Tenby Community. The hall caters for all age groups, from the playgroup which is open from Monday to Friday, to the Lunch at the Movies and Luncheon Club, which is available to anyone of retirement age.

It is also well-used on a daily basis by the community, with opening hours generally being 9 am to 6 pm (office hours and day classes) and 6 to 10 pm (evening classes).

The open day will take place between 10 am and 3 pm tomorrow (Saturday). Entry is free, with refreshments available to purchase from the tea room.

Organisations and groups represented at the event will be Footlights, Tai Chi, Tenderfoot, Rotary, Grace Church, Saundersfoot Breeze, youth club, Regency Hall (events stand), Cancer Research, St. Issell’s WI, Saundersfoot WI, Wales Air Ambulance, Saundersfoot and Tenby First Responders, Boxercise, Dynamix Dance School, playgroup, Saundersfoot in Bloom, Historical Society, St. Issell’s Church, Saundersfoot Caring Association, Guild of Friendship, Neighbourhood Policing Forum and a variety of exercise classes.

SYC - Saundersfoot Youth Group is on its way! Weekly, for 11-16 year olds.

From a chance conversation last year, a small group of six people have been meeting with a view to setting up a Youth Club in the Regency Hall in conjunction with Pembrokeshire County Council.

The news has given rise to amazing support and encouragement from locals, with promises of financial help and resources. A volunteers meeting was held recently and we are thrilled to welcome on board over a dozen volunteers.

Preparations are in hand to ensure correct procedures are implemented in order to provide a safe, fun and educational facility for our young people. If you are interested in giving a helping hand in any way, please let us know
