This year, Whitland Twinning Association will be celebrating 30 years of existence.
In October 1982 at Waungron Mansion, representatives from the town of Pipriac came to show a video film of their town in Brittany.
Next a meeting was held at the Memorial Hall in November to discuss the plan to twin Whitland with Pipriac.
The original executive committee was elected with Mr. Gerwyn Williams chairman, Mr. Ithel Parry-Roberts vice-chairman, Mrs. Tricia Houseman secretary and Mr. Mel Jenkins treasurer.
On Saturday, April 2, 1983, a twinning ceremony was held at Whitland Town Hall and a charter was signed by Mr. Gerwyn Willams, Mayor of Whitland, and Madame Andree Gueutier, Mayor of Pipriac.
As with any committee, there was a rise and fall in membership and change in chairmen. The association has been lucky to have hard working committee members and chairmen with forward vision enabling it to reach 30 years.
Friends from Pipriac arrived in Whitland on Sunday for five days and several events and excursions have been arranged.
