A charity gala concert will be held at The Regency Hall in Saundersfoot next month to help raise funds and awareness for Amelie’s Rainbow.
“In March 2017 our normally very fit and healthy ten- year-old daughter started complaining of headaches, which were accompanied with intermittent vomiting,” said Amelie’s mum Lisa.
“In early April 2017 Amelie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour and was immediately transferred to The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff (the only Children’s Hospital in Wales) for emergency surgery to remove the tumour.
“Surgery went well and Amelie has now completed a six week course of radiotherapy and in September commenced a nine month course of chemotherapy.
“Since diagnosis we have been staggered by the level of NHS care and the phenomenal charitable support offered to families and children dealing with cancer.
“Shortly after diagnosis, Amelie came out with the statement ‘Challenge Accepted’ and decided to help other children and their families in the same situation, hence the creation of the charitable fund Amelie’s Rainbow,” she continued.
100 per cent of all monies raised will go to ‘Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital’ and their supporting children’s cancer charities (Velindre Cancer Centre, LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, CLIC Sargent, Leukemia Trust, Dreams and Wishes, Beads of Courage, The Little Princess Trust and the Kids Cancer Charity). All activities and merchandise is being completely funded by our family, wonderful friends and Amelie’s fabulous teachers and staff from Redhill Preparatory School, meaning that every penny donated by you will go directly to the charities mentioned.
“Amelie has inspired us all to accept the challenge of cancer and to come to terms with ‘our new normal’.
We thank you all for your best wishes, love and support,” said Lisa and her family.
The concert will bring together local and international artistes who have pledged to give their time freely to entertain for the evening.
Appearing will be UNISON Dance Group – Street Dance Champions, Lara James from Cardiff (AKA Lara Sax the renowned International Saxophonist) , Seimon Morris (pianist, conductor and composer from Pembrokeshire), Naomi Pearce (Contemporary dancer from Pembrokeshire), Faith Foster – talented local singer and Welsh Factor semi-finalist, Taryn Williams – singer from Taunton (originally Pembrokeshire), Angharad Williams (violinist) and Ian ‘the voice’ Evans who on hearing of Amelie’s challenge has brought all the performers together in what promises to be the best variety show in 2017 in Pembrokeshire.
“I used to coach Amelie and when I heard she had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour in March at the tender age of 10, my heart sank,” remarked Ian.
“I felt that I had to do something to support her and other children with similar diagnoses, so I contacted a few music friends and dancers and the concept soon materialised and now we are just weeks away from the one off performance,” he added.
Tickets for the concert at the Regency Hall, which takes place on Saturday, November 11 at 7.30 pm, are priced at £10 and are available from The Regency Hall; Vaughans - Haverfordwest; Fine and Country - Narberth and by telephoning 07800582333.
