The annual flower, vegetable and produce show of the Afon Tâf Gardening Club was held on Saturday, September 6, at Whitland Town Hall, when Beryl Gibbin, of Whitland, succeeded in winning the flower, vegetable and produce sections. An excellent array of vegetables, flowers and produce was judged by Mr. Dave Chappell, of Newport, Mr. Hywel Jones, of Llandeilo, and Mrs. Carole Evans and Mrs. Eileen Jones, of Carmarthen. Sixteen club members exhibited (two of whom were new to showing) and a very happy atmosphere prevailed throughout the day. The public were invited to come in and see the exhibits in the afternoon, when excellent teas were provided by Beryl Gibbin and Josephine Jenkins, with food provided by club members. The raffle was run by Margaret Howells and there was a good selection of prizes to be won. The Mayor of Whitland, Clr. Neil Jenkins, and the Mayoress, Mrs. Heather Jenkins, attended in the afternoon to enjoy the show and present the cups and trophies. The Mayor also gave a generous donation to club funds.
