Aelwyd Celfyddydau Span, founded this year, gave a mixed media performance on the BBC Arts Council Wales stage at the Urdd Eisteddfod.
Their diverse performance began with the opening lines of Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood' ('Dan y Wenallt'), presented through mime by Abby Brenchley, accompanied by an a cappella vocal group, who acted as an 'audio installation' in the performance.
On the other side of the stage, street artist Jack Reuben Fletcher provided an art installation.
Different art forms were interwoven throughout the production, including comedy and vocal theatre.
Aelwyd Celfyddydau Span are proud to have brought such a variety of arts to the Urdd Eisteddfod entirely through Welsh, their second language. The production finished with a 'Parade of Ephemeral Dreams' ('Barêd o Freuddwydion Byrhoedlog'): a fashion show!
The aelwyd have been busy designing and creating dresses made out of recycled materials - newspaper, plastic, milk bottles - tailormade for the aelwyd's models Kim Tiglao, Kamille Tiglao, Robyn Bergson and Carys Evans. The dressmaking was led by Lucy-Anna Stone, with assistants Rebecca Twose, Ellen Mason and Jodie Warlow.
The group also held a workshop on Friday at the Arddangosfa on the Maes, and made a wedding dress out of milk bottles which was the last dress showcased on the catwalk on Saturday.
Aelwyd Celfyddydau Span are proud that even the music provided for the catwalk was completely a cappella. The aelwyd were keen to reflect Span Arts' calendar of events, with its annual highlight Narberth A Cappella Festival (the only one in Wales!). The performance was directed by Ellen Mason, and stage managed by Rebecca Twose.
Immediately after the performance, the vocal group won first prize in the vocal ensemble competition. Singers were Rosanna Cale, Clare Williams, Ellen Mason, Ceri-Ann Absalom, Louie Ashton-Butler and James Bartlett.
Other workshops during Urdd Week included a beatbox workshop and placard decorating workshops for primary school children. Aelwyd Celfyddydau Span are pleased to have achieved so much in a short space of time, and are looking forward to the future. Watch this space!
