In the chair of Kilgetty-Begelly Community Council, Clr. Diane Lockley’s festive message to readers, on behalf of the council, she said: “Twelve months on and Covid 19 is still very much part of our daily lives. The one word that was repeated so often at the beginning of 2020 was ‘unprecedented’.
Well, I feel the need to use it now but will refrain, instead I will say we all deserve to be very proud of the efforts we have all made and still make every day to stay safe.
To keep ourselves safe, to keep our loved ones safe and to protect everyone in our community. There has been sadness and many families have lost loved ones and our heartfelt sympathies go out to each and every one who has experienced loss during these times.
Again, a very big thank you to all the groups and individuals who have continued to support their communities in so many different ways. You are all fantastic.
Kilgetty Begelly Community Council has continued to meet throughout the year via the medium of Zoom. Our IT skills have improved amazingly, and it has meant that Council business has been kept up to date.
Earlier in the year we said goodbye and good luck to our outgoing clerk, Melanie Priestley. At the same time, we welcomed our new clerk, Gary Price.
At our May meeting we welcomed Lindsay Harries, who was co-opted on to the Council bringing our numbers back to full strength.
Some of our larger projects, that have been under discussion for a while, have now been started.
The play park in Begelly is getting a face lift, starting with the removing of the old redundant equipment, levelling of the ground, installing a parking area for the use of visitors to the park and to finish with the installation of the new play equipment.
All being well we hope to have an official opening in the spring.
Many of you will also have seen the improvement to the access points to the Kilgetty park and gardens. We are looking forward to achieving a lot more in 2022.
Christmas is almost upon us, but a shadow is there too. The new Covid 19 variant means that once again I am urging you all to continue to be vigilant.
We all know what to do with keeping distance, face masks, sanitising and having got this far let us not fall back.
Continue to check on neighbours, particularly those living on their own that may not have family close by and keep smiling.
On behalf of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council, I would like to wish you all a very happy, peaceful and safe Christmas and look forward to a better year ahead.”
