Pembrokeshire College recently welcomed colleges from across South Wales for the Skills Competition Wales in Health and Social Care and Childcare sectors. Representing the college were three learners from the Level 3 Childcare and two students from the Level 3 Health and Social Care courses.

Pembrokeshire College participants performed exceptionally well, with Health and Social Care student Rowanne Bacon securing first place and Saskia Thomas achieving second place, whilst Childcare student Lisa Phillips secured third place, in their respective competitions.

Competitors were required to compete in various industry sector scenarios, including recognising hazards within a care setting alongside other tasks.

The Childcare competitors had to demonstrate bathing a baby, planning for literacy and numeracy activities, reading a story and sorting toys into age appropriate baskets.

Claire Steel, Health and Social Care Lecturer at Pembrokeshire College, was extremely proud of her learners.

“After lots of hard work, Rowanne and Saskia achieved first and second place in the Regional World Skills competition here in Pembrokeshire College. These achievements are something to be very proud of. I am so thrilled that their hard work and dedication has paid off. A huge congratulations to them,” she said.

The successful learners made it to the final 12 and were due to compete at Coleg Menai in Anglesey last week.
