From Ruth Webb comes a ‘blast’ from Tenby’s past: a 1980s Round Table’s Old Folk’s Christmas Dinner at The Royal Gatehouse Hotel.

Ruth explains:

"Back in 1986 Tenby Round Table Chairman Clive Webb along with Vice Chairman Roland Grigg are busy serving sherry to guests at this wonderful Christmas Dinner which was held annually at the Gatehouse.

"The guests would be entertained by St. Mary’s Church Choir along with the late great Pauline Allen and Laurie Dale.

All the Gatehouse waitresses would give an evening of their time to kindly serve the meal helped by all the members of Round Table. The guests would then be taxied home by the Round Tablers.

"The gentleman in the foreground is Stanley Thomas and the lady is Mrs. Gwennie Anderson.

"Stanley had a building, painting and decorating firm in Tenby and was a local undertaker. He was the father of the late Fire Brigade Station Officer Des Thomas and grandfather of Lyn Thomas, of Upper Park Road Gift Shops.

"Gwennie was a lovely lady who worked as Cashier at The De Valence and also at Iris’s Café on Warren Street.

"We also recognise quite a few other faces but can’t put a name to them apart from Mrs. Eastlake."
