A Whitland man caught driving with a quantity of drugs in his system has been handed a motoring ban.
Twenty-four-year-old Loren Ash Campbell Sawyer, of Dolwilym, Hebron, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to driving a VW Golf on Church Road, Johnston, with a quantity of cocaine and cannabis in his blood.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that Mr. Sawyer was stopped in his vehicle by police officers at around 9.30 pm on February 27, as part of a routine stop check.
“He was smelling strongly of cannabis and after his arrest the blood test came back positive,” she said.
Defence solicitor Stuart John told the court that it was a ‘gross miscalculation’ on the part of his client.
“It is the one and only time he has taken such a risk. He says he has used cannabis far too much over the last few years due to personal matters.
“Mr. Sawyer is seeking help for this and intends to learn lessons from this experience,” he added.
Magistrates fined the defendant a total of £240 for both offences and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
