WAY Out West First Aid Training in Pembrokeshire has been named the Best Compliance Training Provider at the UK Business Awards for its life-saving educational mission.
The Pembrokeshire business, dedicated to making life-saving skills accessible to everyone, was recognised for delivering engaging, practical first aid training that builds confidence and prepares people to respond in real-life emergencies.
The judges praised the business, saying:
"Compliance training is most effective when it prepares people for real situations, which is why Way Out West First Aid Training receives Best Compliance Training Provider. Its courses combine recognised standards with engaging, practical delivery that builds confidence in responding to emergencies. By making training accessible to smaller organisations and communities, it extends the reach and relevance of compliance education."
Founded by Tracy Law, who has more than 30 years’ experience across nursing and education, WOW First Aid Training was established with a simple mission: to make high-quality first aid education affordable, accessible and empowering. Personal experiences also inspired the creation of the business, reinforcing Tracy’s determination to ensure more people have the confidence to act when every second counts.
WOW First Aid Training delivers a range of nationally recognised qualifications, including First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid, alongside CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, community CPR workshops, junior first aid sessions, and specialist pet first aid courses at times and locations that work for learners, offering on-site, evening and weekend training, as well as bespoke programmes designed around the needs of local businesses, community groups and organisations.
While supporting businesses to meet their legal obligations is an important part of what the company does, Tracy believes first aid should never be viewed as simply a compliance exercise.
"Meeting HSE requirements is essential for many employers, but first aid is about so much more than ticking a box," she said. "It's about giving people the confidence to help a colleague, a loved one or even a complete stranger. These are life skills that everyone should have—not just because they're required for work, but because they could save someone's life."
That message is particularly important in Wales, where survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest remains below 5 per cent—the lowest in the UK. Early CPR and rapid defibrillation can dramatically improve survival, yet many people still lack the confidence to intervene before emergency services arrive.
To meet growing demand, WOW First Aid Training is preparing to open new dedicated training premises in Pembroke Dock, creating a permanent base for accredited qualifications, community workshops and specialist training.
Reflecting on the award, Tracy said: "It's an honour to receive this recognition. It reflects the passion behind WOW First Aid Training and our commitment to making first aid education engaging, inclusive and accessible. If more people feel confident enough to step forward in an emergency because of our training, then we've achieved exactly what we set out to do."
