A Milford man has been given a hefty fine in court after pleading guilty to drugs possession charges.

Forty-four-year-old Barry McElroy, of Willow End, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to admit two charges of possessing 0.32 grams of cocaine, and 0.2 grams of cannabis.

Prosecutor Abul Hussain told the court that police officers attended the defendant’s address on July 20 with a search warrant and recovered the drugs.

“Mr. McElroy made full admissions and said that the drugs were for his own personal use. The aggravating feature is his record and the fact that he is subject to a conditional discharge,” he said.

Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that the defendant’s past antecedent history was all for matters of a similar ilk.

Magistrates fined Mr. McElroy £140 for the cocaine charge and £100 for the cannabis charge. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.

The defendant was ordered to pay a further £200 after the court re-sentenced his conditional discharge, meaning he was given a total of £555 to pay.
