A drink driver who was spotted travelling erratically along back road lanes near Tavernspite has been handed a 12 month motoring ban.
Twenty-eight-year-old Zara Louise Havard, of New Street, Glynneath, Neath, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to driving her Citroen after exceeding the alcohol limit
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that Miss Havard’s vehicle was brought to the attention of police officers at around 11.30 pm on May 13, due to the standard of her driving along the Old Bulford Road, Tavernspite.
“She misjudged a bend and was driving with her light son full beam. At one point she went into another lane on the road.
“When police officers pulled her over to speak to her, the windscreen wipers were screeching and fully going, despite it not raining! They could smell alcohol on her breath and she failed a roadside test,” she continued.
After being arrested, at the police station, Miss Havard gave a reading of 40 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Defence solicitor Jonathan Webb told the court that Miss Havard was driving back to her partner’s caravan at the time, and didn’t know the roads well.
“She put her headlights on to make sure that she could negotiate the bend,” he explained.
Magistrates disqualified the defendant from driving for 12 months and fined her £193 for the offence.
Miss Havard was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
