A free training session for local residents in the use of defibrillators has been arranged by East Williamston Community Council.

Starting at 7pm, it’s being held at the East Williamston Community Hall on Wednesday, November 28, with training provided by the Tenby and Saundersfoot First Responders.

Also known as AEDs or automated external defibrillators, the devices are simple to use and can mean the difference between life and death.

No previous first aid experience is necessary so the event is open to everyone, including children ten years old and above who are welcome to attend with parents.

Installed by Tenby and Saundersfoot First Responders, East Williamston Community Council’s two defibrillators are located on the outside walls of the community hall in East Williamston and the bus stop in Broadmoor.

Wooden and Pentlepoir are served by a defibrillator funded and installed by the first responders on the outside wall of the shop at Pentlepoir Garage and petrol station, meanwhile EWCC plans to fund a further device in 2019 to serve the Kingsmoor and Pentlepoir area, to be located at the bus stop near Hill Rise.

For those wishing to learn more about defibrillators and how to use them, but are unable to attend on Wednesday, a further event will hopefully be held in early 2019.

The first responders are part of a community scheme setup by the Welsh Ambulance Service. It dispatches members of the local community to 999 emergencies, who are able to give life-saving treatment before an ambulance arrives, usually from further afield. They often hold talks and training events with community groups and further information, including contact details, is available on their website: tenby-saundersfootfirstresponders.co.uk.
