A Neyland mother who popped out to get a chocolate bar for her son only to be involved in a road accident, has admitted a drink-driving offence.
Thirty-eight-year-old Chloe Gabriel, of Gordon Parry Road, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court last week (October 29) to plead guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that at 10 pm on October 10 there was a minor road traffic collision between the defendant and another motorist.
Ms. Gabriel and the other motorist took each other’s details, but then for some reason she started walking away from the scene.
When a police officer arrived, they were given information regarding the defendant, and shortly after she was stopped by the officer, admitting that she had been drinking.
After failing a roadside breath test, she was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where she gave a reading of 101 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The court heard that the defendant had started drinking whilst cooking dinner for her children, and afterwards her son wanting a chocolate bar from the shop led to Ms Gabriel getting into her car.
Mr. Pritchard-Jones said that there were aggravating features which included the high reading and causing an accident.
Defence solicitor Lauren Bayley said her client accepted what had happened when she was interviewed by police.
She said the distance between Ms Gabriel’s house and the Co-op shop was short, but it was a foolish thing to do, which she shouldn’t have done, regardless of the distance.
She added that her client had been sacked from her job because of the court proceedings.
Probation officer, Julie Norman told the court that the defendant had told her that she felt okay to drive when she wasn’t, and that the experience had been a sad thing for her.
Magistrates handed the defendant a two-year driving ban as well as a 12-month community order whereby she must undertake 150 hours of unpaid work.
Ms. Gabriel was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs, along with a £90 victim surcharge.
