A chef caught driving in Llanteg with a quantity of cannabis in his system has been handed a motoring ban.
Twenty-two-year-old Dylan James David Williams, of Dunvant, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to admit a charge of driving his BMW on the A477 with a quantity of the drug in his blood.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that a police officer conducting speed checks in Llanteg on January 7, formed the opinion that Mr. Williams was driving in excess of the speed limit.
“He caught up with him and spoke to him in his car, and could smell cannabis.
“Mr. Williams’ complexion was pale and he was clammy,” he explained.
A roadside drug swab test proved positive and Mr. Williams was arrested. He told officers that he has not taken cannabis that day but admitted to taking it the previous day.
Defence solicitor Anthony O’Connell told the court that Mr. Williams had been taking the drug on a social basis.
“He is a full-time chef earning £30,000 a year, but will not be able to get to his place of employment without his car. He instructs me that he will 100 per cent lose his job if he loses his licence,” he said.
Magistrates disqualified Mr. Williams from driving for 12 months and fined him £440 for the offence,
He was also ordered to pat prosecution costs of £85 and a £44 victim surcharge.
