AS Angle RNLI Lifeboat continues its brave, dedicated rescue service, the crew looks back on another busy period, with nine further callouts during April.
On April 8 they were tasked to assist a man who had fallen eight feet onto rocks at Kilroom Beach. In the event, his friends were able to carry him onto the coast path.
On April 12 they aided a casualty who had fallen approximately five metres onto rocks at Milford Marina. Alongside other emergency services, crew used the Y boat to move the casualty to the nearby pontoons and into the care of the ambulance service.
On April 13 the lifeboat launched and made best speed to Lydstep to support Tenby RNLI ILB, Tenby and St Govan’s CRTs and the Police with the search for a missing person. It was rounding St Govan’s Head when news was received that the casualty had located on Tenby’s South Beach and was now receiving medical care.
On April 14, the crew were requested to launch to assist with a missing person threatening self harm at Castle Pill, Milford Haven. Fortunately as the boat was being readied for launch, police found the casualty safe and well.
On April 19, Angle lifeboat made a 30-minute journey to locate and assist a five-metre motor vessel on the Cresswell River with two people on board. The boat was suffering machinery issues. After a 90-minute tow, both vessels arrived off Gelliswick Beach where casualties and vessel were safely recovered.
On April 24 the lifeboat launched to a 10 meter yacht with two on board that had gone aground at Hakin Point, Milford Haven. The lifeboat’s inflatable Y boat was launched with two crew members who saw the yacht hard aground and beginning to list. They assisted the yacht’s crew to stream their anchor into deeper water before transferring them onto the All-Weather Lifeboat and back to the Port Authority Jetty where members of Dale Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting.
Just a few hours later, the crew were paged again to provide safety cover to a local fishing vessel which had been arranged to salvage the yacht by its owners. The lifeboat launched and arrived to find the yacht floating nicely once again. An hour later, with enough water to get alongside, the fishing vessel arrived and dropped both of the yacht’s crew members aboard before taking them in an alongside tow and towing the vessel out into deeper water.
On April 25, the lifeboat launched to Freshwater West and its crew utilised searchlights, night vision and FLIR to search for a missing male at Bucks Pool. Members of St Govan’s and Tenby Coastguard Rescue Teams and Police officers were also searching the shoreline. Not long into the search, news was received that the casualty was located on Frainslake Beach by Coastguard officers.
On April 26 the crew were preparing to launch to assist in a search for two missing 9-year-old children at Freshwater West when police found the children safe and well.
