After the high jinks of last weeks Bart’s Bash event, it was back to club sailing on Sunday, but there was a dramatic start to the day with a cliff-fall on The Strand and then a sunken boat in the harbour (luckily not one of ours), but these problems and a wet misty start still did not deter the fleet of 12 boats who rigged determined not to let the conditions get the better of them.

The jokers from last week (or was it jesters), Paul and Julia were in the box peering through the mist, while the safety crews of James and John, plus Paul and Steve shepherded the fleet out through the swirling tide at the harbour mouth.

The race team decided on an Outfall Pendine Harbour course with a beat to start and partly due to the red outfall buoy having greater visibility in the misty conditions and the fleet set off with some gusto.

The stronger conditions this week seemed to suit the Contenders of Simon and Maurice more, although they have been hindered this season by the predominantly light winds we have been having in Sunday races so we should not begrudge them this and they managed to complete four laps in just over 40 minutes to take first and second place overall ahead of Dave in third.

This week’s race also incorporated the much-delayed Lady and Junior helm races which were keenly contested but the overall winners of these prizes were Hywel in an excellent fourth place with first lady being new member Jenny in fifth place just pipping Rosie in sixth place, the unluckiest sailor must have been Sam in his Topper who first had bung/buoyancy problems followed later on by a broken kicker so hard luck Sam. Good to see Thomas out as well in the Topper braving the rough conditions.

Thanks to all of those on duty, particularly the safety crews on such a wet day, hopefully better conditions next week.

Following the race, there was a brief meeting in the clubhouse along with coffee and biscuits to review the season and also to make plans for the Frostbite series and looking ahead to next year, a lot of progress was made with a number of changes and hopefully improvements being planned for 2018 and thanks to all of those who attended and contributed to the discussions.

Away from club racing, we are pleased to report on the continuing progress of one of our young sailors, Aled for winning the Topper class in the Welsh youth and junior zone championships at Fishguard, so well done Aled.

This weekend, we will have the first two races of the Frostbite series starting at 1500 on Sunday and we hope to have yet another good turnout then.
