Last Friday at Tenby GC, the Rotary Clubs of Tenby and Saundersfoot held their 27th Annual Charity Golf Day.
A total of 16 teams of four golfers took part. This was more than last year, but not as many as previous years.
The weather was much better than forecasted and all competitors enjoyed the day, although some did find the famous links rather tough, the punishing rough in particular.
This year’s winners were the Willcox Financial/TP Hughes quartet of Chris Hughes, Loz Phillips, Rob Willcox and Dave Hancock who came in with a total of 80 points, including 43 on the back nine.
In second place by virtue of a better back nine were the Hi Tech Industrial Roofing quartet of Chris Beecher, Ben Childs, Rhys David and the great Tommy David. They scored 78 points.
Juno Monetta Wealth 2 also scored 78 points. Their team comprised Neil Proctor, Colin Murphy, Terry Picton and Jeff Banfield.
On 77 points were the Valero four of Mike Davies, Richard Scourfield, Peter Jennings and Billy Goodrick.
Guy Thomas & Co scored 76 points. The team comprised Richard Ormond, Gary McNeilly, Viv John and David Morgan.
Two teams had 75 points. Juno Monette Wealth 1 - Sam Barton, the Pro at Haverfordwest, Jason Edwards, Carl Davies and former rugby international Ian Gough, who also competed in Sunday’s Ironman, plus the Alexander Partnership trio of Ian Thomas, Jeremy Peters and Steve Allen.
Other scores included Austin Davies and Friends - 74 points, Andrew Rees Butchers - 69 points, Steffan Jenkins and Friends/Lewis Lewis & Co - 68 points, WEDGES - 67 points, Davies Homes - 65 points, Trefalun Park - 63 points, Milford Haven Port Authority - 60 points and JCP Solicitors - 52 points.
The longest drives were claimed by Billy Goodrick (2nd) and Sam Barton (14th).
The nearest the pins were won by Tommy David (6th), Paul Bowen (12th) and Paul McCaul (17th).
Nearest the pins in two shots were awarded to Ben Childs (5th), Rob Willcox (13th) and Jason Edwards (18th).
Following a fine meal, the raffle incorporated an excellent array of prizes.
The evening entertainment was provided by the brilliant local comedian, Lenny Dee.
Each year, Tenby and Saundersfoot Rotary Clubs raise and donate substantial funds to local, national and international charities. Wales Air Ambulance and Paul Sartori Foundation will both benefit from the successful Charity Golf Day.
The two Rotary Clubs wish to express their gratitude to all individuals, companies and organisations which sponsored teams and holes etc..
Without this generosity, the event would not proceed and the worthwhile charities would lose out on valuable revenue.
