Last Friday, Tenby GC’s Fun Evening was very well attended by a mixture of potential new members, new members and established members of all ages.

The weather was gorgeous and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who took part during the busy and successful evening. Attendees were able to participate in four different competitions, i.e. target golf, putting with a difference, the Par 3 challenge and longest drive which was held in the West Coast Academy teaching studio.

The target golf was held on the driving range. Some excellent shots were witnessed and the leading scores were Ieuan Toom 10 points, Ruby Toom and Nel Allen - both 11 points, Jessica Moffat - 12 points and Fletcher Hilling - 13 points.

The putting competition involved keeping the ball within a marked route before holing out on three holes. The leading three scores were Colin Reynolds and Megan - both 10 putts and Idwal David - nine putts.

In the Par 3 challenge, all competitors were given a ‘flag’ which they had to plant after taking 10 shots. Three competitors had their ball in the hole on the third green after 10 shots. These were Dave Hancock, Gareth Brace and Lucy Anthony.

The chosen hole for the longest drive on the simulator in the studio was the famous 18th at St. Andrews. A lot of muscles were flexed prior to each competitor being allowed three drives which had to finish on the fairway to count. Paul Dennehy, Gareth Brace and Nick Rodgers figured early on. However, the clear winner with a huge drive of around 290 yards was Tenby GC’s greenkeeper, Scott Williams, who beat all others, including both of the club’s professionals, Rhys Harry and Tom Hilling!

The prizes for the evening were based on an informal league, with points being awarded for each of the four competitions. The ‘best endeavour’ award was an MOT lesson with the professional and this was given to Wyndham Collins, a new member who has recently moved to Tenby from Hampshire.

Youngsters Jim Hancock and Ryan Dennehy each won a sleeve of balls for their efforts. Gareth Brace and Idwal David both claimed a free buggy for their consistent scoring.

Tenby GC’s caterers, LRS kindly donated Sunday lunch for two and this was won by new member Colin Reynolds.

Young girls Seren Allen, Nel Allen and Lucy Anthony will share the fantastic prize of a lesson in the West Coast Academy studio with professional Rhys Harry.

Millie Brace and Jim Hancock won the prizes for pinning their flags closest to the hidden hole. Kenna Crawford claimed the cake by being closest to guessing its weight. Nick Allen secured his first prize for several years by correctly guessing the number of tee pegs in the jar.

All those who attended what proved to be a fantastic evening were able to enjoy a wonderful buffet. Indeed, a big thank you is due to all members of Tenby GC’s catering and bar team for their assistance. The club is also very grateful to others who helped organise and run the successful Fun Evening.
