Ten Tenby Rabbits gathered last Sunday to see who drew who in the hunt for the Winter League Best Eight Score title and rather than play in five couples they had two threeballs and a four, writes Warren Hacker, our links reporter. Which player will be king for the day?
First away were Chris, Tom (his second visitation) and Robin and despite a slow start (four team points from the first hole), the three (plus a four) pointers soon flowed and by the end they all got scores in the 30s. They finished with seven, six and five three pointers respectively.
The next group off consisted of Ian J, vice-captain Steve W and the winner of the last two weeks, Mike (as there are two people with the same name the computer refers to him as (Mike)) and they all got two points from the first hole, although then their scores went their different ways, but Ian and (Mike) managed two four-pointers each (Steve could only manage one).
Last group away were Rees, Ian W (both in their second outings of the season), acting-acting treasurer Steve C and defending champion Grant. Ian had a bit of an early struggle, but then managed to get his score into the 20s, despite a couple of horseshoe putts. Rees had a few wayward drives, but managed several pars on the back nine. Grant notched eight (yes, eight) three pointers and he was the best of the group with a good backside of 21, whilst Steve had one of the two blob-free rounds, but too many one pointers cost him a top six place.
The scores were analysed and the scores were revealed - Robin’s 34 making him sixth, Ian J’s 36 enough for fifth, Tom’s 38 giving him fourth on countback as Grant beat his elder brother on countback for bronze place, with Chris getting silver place after his 39 points (the second best score this season so far). Coming out on top for what seems to be his weekley position we had (Mike) who has now earned himself a lawrie-load of cash. His 41 points left him high as a kite and wood have been enlarged if he had managed to cink a short 14-inch pott on the 12th and a three-foot birdie chance on the 17th green which could have given him more dosh still from the Twos Pot Rollover.
At least there were no Sandy problems this week - daly practice makes perfect I surmize. Willett cotton on? It took (Mike) three weeks to get 40-plus - it took Grant two weeks last season.
Steve W leads the Eclectic after increasing his score by two - an improvement matched by Ian J and Grant, Chris is up one, Robin goes up six, Rees (up 13) and Tom (up 17) in their second outings and (Mike) rose seven to sit in second place.
The Steves are the only two with seven appearances this season, but there are still plenty of weeks to go for others to get good scores and climb up the table. Wonder who els apart from (Mike) can come top, in casey has an off day. Don’t forget watson offer next week - a double Twos Rollover.
If you read alisst of the names of golfing greats there could be a brand new name added jolly soon. (Mike)! As you have also seen there are lots of other golfers in this report.
