On a very wet Saturday morning, Tenby U13s played host to Camrose.
Having narrowly lost the league to Camrose last season, the team knew this was going to be one of the toughest tests of the season.
With a good crowd watching, despite the awful weather, the game began, and it was obvious from the first few minutes that the boys needed to be on top form to get the win. Camrose, strong in both attack and defence, threw everything at Tenby, who remained strong and full of self belief.
After a few minutes of end to end play, Iori took advantage of the larger goals with a long range shot to give Tenby an early lead.
Tenby created several more chances, but weren’t able to convert until Dylan Kidd made a break and scored the second goal.
Camrose soon pulled one back when they found a break in the defence to bring the score to 2-1.
An unlucky own goal made the score 3-1 to Tenby at half-time.
The second half saw Camrose come out very determined, and after much pressure on the Tenby defence created to level the score.
The Tenby boys were shaken and saw continued pressure in their own half. Hanging on in and with strong tackling and determined attack, Iori was able to get some space and took his chances successfully to bring the score to 4-3.
With just a few minutes to go, it was nail-biting stuff, but Jack hit a long range effort from behind the halfway line which took a lucky bounce in front of the ’keeper to increase the lead further to 5-3.
Much relief to players, coaches and parents when the final whistle blew. A great win in a great game, played in terrible weather. Well done boys.
Team: Kyle, Leon, Jack, George, Toby, Jack, TJ, Iori, Taine, Morgan, Dylan, Max, Cas and Lewis.
Under 15s
The Seasiders hosted Neyland at the Clicketts and as a lot of teams have already found this year they were struggling for players, so they only arrived with 10.
As a sporting gesture, the Tenby coaches only fielded the same, despite having 15 in attendance.
From the off, the homesters played some lovely football and soon Jack Jones had his first of the day, which then triggered a bit of a goal fest. Joe Evans rattled in number two, followed quickly by a nice finish for Archie Smith.
Dylan Morgan was next and he then provided for Archie to get his second, while Dylan himself almost doubled his tally, but the dreaded woodwork foiled him.
To be fair, Neyland never gave up and towards the end of the half Ned Davies came up with a last-ditch sliding tackle to stop the attack.
Kurt Sarrionandia was his usual busy self and he put in a great ball for Jack’s second and Tenby’s sixth before the half-time interval.
As busy as the first half was, the second saw more goals, with Dylan adding one to get a brace and it was almost a repeat of the Milford game because shortly after he went on the rampage again, but this time the ’keeper denied him...
However, the Neyland defence was breeched again as the referee pointed to the penalty spot and Charlie Gregory converted.
The pressure was starting to tell on the visitors, which soon showed with an own goal for the travelling side.
This team doesn’t need any assistance in the scoring of goals, though. Archie got himself two assists, both to the big man Jack Jones (pictured) who got yet another Jack trick (four goals). Apparently 13 is an unlucky number! Well that’s probably what Neyland were thinking, but as for Teejay Gardner, well he won’t agree as he was to have the last say in this match with a lovely individual finish and the third straight win for the lads.
Under 10s
On Saturday Tenby Dragons Under 10s went on the their travels to play Narberth in Clynderwen.
The opening goal came down the right hand side, with the Dragon’s Arlo coming infield from the left to slot the cross in and make it one up to the away team.
Jesse’s distribution out from the back for Tenby was again impeccable with Louis, Sam, Bailey and Ethan always making themselves available to build up play from the defence, the way things should happen when developing skills.
The visitors made changes with Ethan Wright, Lucas and debutant Eli entering the arena, all stamping their mark on the game.
Ethan Wright’s running off the ball was brilliant, while Lucas was him normal effervescent self in wide midfield, creating good scoring opportunities for himself.
After Narberth equalised, Tenby regained the lead through George and Ethan Wright to make it 1-3, before the hosts reduced the deficit to a solitary goal.
Tenby brought Sam into left midfield to give a lovely balance to the equation, and Ethan Lewis became a strong rugged centre half tackling everyone within his radar!
Evan eventually put Tenby 2-4 up by slotting in well taken goal.
A corner came in from the left, and a Narberth player came in to score in to leave it 3-4 with five minutes to go.
Tenby reverted to an extra centre half in Bailey, with the Seasiders seeing the game out to make the final score 3-4, and were literally ‘singing in the rain’
Debutant Eli was given the coveted man of the match award, and for a lad making his first foray into club football, he was exceptional.
Tenby team: Jesse Craig, Louis Rapi, Sam Hughes, Bailey Joyce, Ethan Lewis, Arlo Jones, Evan Coleman, Lucas Rhys-Davies, Eli Owen, George Morgan, Ethan Wright.
