Last Saturday saw Tenby U12s play their last tournament of what has been a very busy season.

As last year’s winners of the U12s group in the annual Tenby AFC Tournament, the team wanted to finish the season on a high note.

With five games in the group stages, and only five minutes each way, the boys knew they had to perform well, and they did, winning all their group games and not conceding a goal.

It was good to play against teams from outside the area, but the wins came against Tenby U11s 2-0, Ynystawe Athletic 2-0, Carmarthen Stars B 2-0, Kentucky 11s 1-0 and Llandarcy 7-0.

As winners of the group, the team were then drawn against the runners-up of the other group, when they faced Ynystawe Athletic (who had a team in each group).

With the games longer at 10 minutes each way, Tenby played some lovely football and at half-time the boys led 3-0, eventually going on to win 4-0, with goals from Max (3) and Iori.

And so on to the final where they were to play Carmarthen Stars A. These teams have met on many occasions and it has always been a close game.

Carmarthen took an early lead and, despite the efforts from the Tenby boys, the half-time score remained at 1-0.

With the clock ticking, Tenby threw everything they could at the Carmarthen defence, and a corner finally led to Morgan beating the ’keeper to the ball with a great header to level it at 1-1.

So to ‘golden goal’, with hearts racing from both players and spectators, but a further five minutes play saw nothing between the two teams and the score remained 1-1.

And so penalty kicks followed, much to the delight of the crowd watching. But it wasn’t to be, Tenby scored four out of five, with Carmarthen Stars netting all five of theirs to see them lift the trophy.

The final was played in great spirits and the boys showed their appreciation to each other straight after the final whistle.

After a long day, the boys were proud of their efforts and the game really could have gone either way.

Team: Kyle, Jack, George, Iori, Morgan, Toby, Dylan, Max and Lewis.

The boys and coach Angie are now looking forward to good few months rest before an exciting season ahead with more to play for.

Under 7s

So this week the Under 7s had a very local tournament here in Tenby and what a beautiful day for it.

The boys first game against Carmarthen Stars ended 0-0

Next game against RVS, we had our first loss of the season ending 1-0.

A close game against Prendergast with us losing 2-1

Our last game was Tenby U6s which we came away with a win 3-1. Well done to the U6s who were playing a year up, but still put up a fight.

I think the boys should be very proud of themselves playing teams a year up from them, excellent effort by everyone.

Lastly, a huge thank you to everyone involved in the organising of the tournament, a great day had by all, players and parents.

Team: Toby Hilling, Ollie Toy, Max Howells, Blake Ryder, Iori O’Rourke, Jaden Graham, Kyan Smith, Oliver Ingham, William Phillpott, George Hughes.
