A lovely sunny morning at The Clicketts saw Tenby 7(B) team take on Lawrenny Under 7s in the final game of the season.

It was a close-fought contest right the way through, with some very attacking football from both sides. It was fair to say that both teams were having fun and playing with a smile on their faces.

Tenby came away with a 3-2 result - well done everyone!

A special mention to Ben Craig for winning man-of-the-match. He didn’t stop tackling throughout the game - well done!

I (Ben Field-Thomas) would personally like to thank all the parents for their contribution throughout the season. There have been some early, wet and cold mornings and you have been there every week. Thank you.

Tenby AFC U9s

Last Saturday in the week that ABBA reformed, Tenby hosted Prendergast Villa in the last game of the season.

It was a lovely sunny morning, with both teams having a squad of 12 players. Tenby’s coaches looked around the players with lots of them saying ‘take a chance on me’ for selection. Both sides started brightly with good football being ‘the name of the game.’ The visitors took the lead just before the break.

In the second XV, the Seasiders came under a lot of pressure initially, but resilient defending from Prince Louis and Tyler kept the home side in touch. Tenby’s Dylan was having a good game as the ‘man in the middle.’ The coaches sent out an ‘SOS’ to the home side in order to get all the midfielders to track back and help out in ‘Waterloo’ style! The Villans got their second to extend their lead. From the restart, Ethan had a shot from the kick-off which hit the crossbar, with shots from the Seasiders Arlo and Tyler going wide.

Half-time brought the Seasiders having a regroup with the coaches saying ‘I still have faith in you’ and ‘here we go again.’

A switch for the home side after the break between George and Lucas played dividends in terms of intensity, with the later pressing high and George having some ‘super trooper’ dribbles in midfield. Again, the third period brought another goal for the away side.

The heat was getting to Paul Rapi on the sidelines who was ‘putting on his white sombrero’ and ‘feeling the beat from his tambourine.’

The final period again brought great defending from the Seasiders’ Thomas, Sam and Bailey with Jesse making several fine saves. Tenby have now been playing for a number of years, with the advantage of each player ‘knowing me knowing you.’ Again Evan, from Tenby had a good game in midfield. The Villans scored a fourth just before the final whistle with a ‘gimme gimme gimme.’

Final score was 0-4 to Prendergast, with the ‘winner takes it all.’

Man of the match went to George, who was very effective in wide midfield, really taking the game to Villa with great dribbling. George was always a threat. Well done George, ‘does your mother know’ you got man of the match!

A big thank you to all the parents and supporting crew for a wonderful season. ‘We are having the time of our lives, oh yeah’!’ Tournaments next.

Team: Jesse Craig, Prince Louis Rapi, Thomas Strong, Tyler Simpson, Bailey Joyce, Sam Hughes, Arlo Jones, Dylan Sine, Evan Coleman, Ethan Lewis, Lucas Rhys-Davies, George Morgan.

Under 12s

Last Wednesday evening Tenby hosted Hakin at the Clicketts. The game saw some wonderful play from the home team, and it was not long before Max slotted the first goal in the back of the net. He completed his hat-trick and grabbed a fourth within the first half and the score at half-time was 7-0, with other goal scorers being Toby and Lewis with two.

The second half once again saw Tenby dominant and more goals followed from Cas, another from Max and a spectacular goal kick from Kyle which caught the wind and ended up over the Hakin keeper to score, much to the delight of his team-mates! Final score 10-0.

The next game saw Tenby host Clarbeston Road in the semi-final of the cup. Having seen the league title slip through their fingers, Tenby were keen to reach the final and bring some silverware home. They knew that their opponents were keen to do the same, so a tough battle lay ahead, and they had to do without Jack, who is recovering from a knee injury.

It was Tenby who from the kick off, showed some dominance, and after end to end play, with solid defending from the back, Lewis was able to get the first goal.

In fact, like the game before, he was able to convert three more in the first half, along with another from Max.

Clarbeston Road, full of their own determination, kept attacking the Tenby defence and were able to sneak in a rebound from the goalkeeper to bring back the score to 4-1 at half-time.

The second half again saw Tenby create many chances through excellent passing, with goals coming from Iori (2), Max, Archie and Dylan (2), as the boys were jubilant in their victory, winning 10-1.

On to the final now where they will face St. Clears.

Team: Kyle, Leon, George, Iori, Toby, Morgan, Dylan, Max, Lewis, Archie, Cas, Ethan, Corey.

UNDER 14s

The Seasiders had two massive games in six days and a win against Neyland away would see them secure the league title.

So on a rainy, blowy Monday evening, they travelled away to tie things up and, to be fair, considering the conditions and the pitch, they got on well. Can’t say it was early nerves that were settled, more a case of when or who got the lads up and running, and it was the lefty Archie Smith who slipped one low past the Neyland ’keeper.

This was soon followed by the tricky Charlie Phillips getting his name on the sheet.

Not to be outdone, the Charlie of the Gregory showed up next with a lovely volley from outside the box for number three.

The boys continued to dominate on a tricky, bobbly pitch, but Rhys Mansell in goal had to be alert, along with the defence.

Number four soon came along and it was that man again, Jack Jones! Will Malone made himself the usual nuisance and supplied the ever-dependable Joe Evans with a great ball for number five.

No great surprise who popped up for number six; it was the goal-scoring machine that is Jack Jones again.

Not much to trouble Tenby and the busy Kurt Sarrionandia added to the tally for number seven just before the half-time interval.

Second half and Neyland came out on the front foot and got an early goal that was deserved... soon followed by a luvvly individual goal by the rocket Dylan Morgan.

All the lads kept probing and yet again it was goal machine Jack for his hat-trick, soon followed by number four courtesy of some great footwork by Dylan to provide Jack with his well-deserved number four and number 10.

Not to be outdone, Teejay Gardner had the last word with a sublime finish to put the game well and truly out of sight and seal the league title without dropping a single point thus far.

Saturday was to be a different challenge, with the boys at home against a strong Camrose outfit in the semi-final of the Pembrokeshire Cup.

Both teams went toe-to-toe and the defence, which was missing the dependable Callum Karaka, had their work cut out, under the watchful eyes of Rhys Mansell (pictured), who was called upon a few times.

The lads stayed strong and Ned Davies, Charlie Gregory, Charles Phillips and Iori Humpries all stood up to the plate. Dylan was his usual busy self down the right, but to be fair, the left back for Camrose not only had his number, but often his boots as well. Not many stop this lad, but eventually he broke free to set up, who else, but the Jack Jones show for the homesters to take the lead.

The game continued to switch from end to end, with Rhys called upon and Teejay Gardner, Archie Smith and Kurt Saronandia pushing the the Camrose defence. S

The second half witnessed similar scenarios and an early breakthrough saw Archie one-on-one with the keeper, only to be denied by an excellent last-ditch challenge by a Camrose defender.

Things were getting a bit nervy and Camrose kept knocking on the door, but Rhys was having absolutely none of it and kept denying the attack superbly.

So one-nil it was heading for, but one lad hadn’t quite finished yet, and it was a lovely bit of footwork by Teejay Gardner who settled the game and the nerves with the second goal of the match to see the lads into the final against a strong Hakin team next Saturday at Monkton Swifts. Come along and watch some quality football.
