Under 7s

Martyn and Laura Howells, of Kilgetty Fish Bar, are proud to support Tenby Under 7s and wish coach Mally Paxton and the team good luck for the season. They are seen right.

Under 12s

Last weekend, Tenby AFC Under 12s (seen below right) had an eagerly anticipated home league game against Prendergast. This was always going to be a stern test, and so it proved, as the away side struck first with a well-taken goal from the first real attack of the game.

The Tenby boys eventually woke up and lay siege to the away team’s goal, but a mixture of poor approach play and good defending kept the score at 1-0.

As the half wore on, they did eventually get the ball in the back of the net and a second soon followed. Not to be outdone, the away side scored to level things up, but as the half-time whistle was about to blow, a great bit of team play saw Tenby go into the break up by 3-2.

The half-time team talk must have worked well as the boys came out a different team, playing much better football, with super passing, which is what they are known for. Goals came at regular intervals as gaps appeared in the Prendergast defence and the final score read 11-3 to a happy Tenby squad, and much-relieved coach, Angie.

Thanks to referee for the day, Colin, who controlled the match very well.

Team and scorers were: Kyle, Leon, Dylan D, Jack (1), Iori (1), George, Morgan, Max (3), Dylan K (5), Archie, Toby, (and an own goal)

Under 14s

Five games in and Tenby Under 14s (seen below) have got off to a fantastic start in winning all their games, including two difficult away games at Hakin and Clarbeston Road.

The 16-strong squad has welcomed in new players in Dylan Morgan, Joe Evans and Jack Jones, all of whom have more than settled in and brought new attacking purpose to the team. Ifan Thomas will also soon return to training after a long lay-off through injury and this will further enhance the squad.

So, new players, new kit, new training kit, kindly sponsored by Rumbleway and Station Garage, respectively , but it’s the same old principle of trying to get the ball down and play expansive attacking football from this talented young group who continue to challenge each other in training and prosper in games.

This season’s league is throwing up some surprising results, so Tenby are aware that they must respect all their opponents, no matter what previous results they may of had or what their league standing is, and the next few weeks will throw up some decent games, with high-flying Neyland visiting the Clicketts, along with Clarbie Road in the first round of the West Wales cup.

This weekend the squad travel to Milford hoping to keep up their winning ways and take another three points.

Squad: Rhys Mansell, Calam Karaka, Ned Davies, Joe Evans, Iori Humphreys, Charlie Phillips, Wil Malone, Charlie Gregory, Archie Smith, Jake Allen, Dylan Morgan, Teejay Gardner, Fin Arthur, Jack Jones, Kurt Sarrionandia, Ifan Thomas.

Clarbeston Road U16s 2 Tenby U16s 2

Last Saturday saw Tenby Under 16s make the trip to arch rivals Clarbeston Road.

Having just pipped their opponents to the league title last season, the visitors knew this would be their biggest test so far.

Both sides were very tentative in the first quarter, clearly not wanting to make any mistakes which could cost their team victory.

It was the home side that got the breakthrough, though, neat play opening up the Tenby defence to go a goal up.

The Seasiders had to react, and did just that through midfielder Jake Hipkiss, who got the last touch from a Carl Thomas corner.

Hipkiss then went from hero to villain, earning himself a red card for retaliation. This meant that the visitors had to battle on for the last 60 minutes with 10 men.

Tenby’s plight was made more challenging when Clarby scored their second goal to go into half-time ahead.

However, Tenby never gave up, and dug deep to level the match thanks to Thomas, who finished smoothly from a through ball by Harri Phillips.

The Seasiders could have snatched victory late on, but Rhys Morgan had his penalty saved by the home ’keeper.

The referee brought an end to proceedings with two talented sides sharing the points here, but it was the away team’s coaches going home the happier considering the circumstances.

The whole squad showed grit and determination to get something from the game, but midfielder Dylan Evans put in a mammoth shift to earn the man-of-the-match vote.
