St. Florence Girls Football Club travelled to the Girls National Football Festival, on Thursday, June 1, which was being held in Cardiff to link in with the women’s Champions League final being held in Cardiff on the same day.
St. Florence had three teams involved. It turned out to be a brilliant day for everyone and the girls played some superb football.
The Under 10s team for the day was Maddy, Imogen, Laura, Ruby, Bella, Sienna and Ellie. The girls played five games and were unbeaten, after winning four and drawing once. They even won their first game 12-nil. It was a great display by all the girls and they should be very proud of themselves after playing teams from all over Wales, including two teams from Cardiff.
The Under 12s were in a group of five teams from around Wales and played four games. They managed to win their first three games, but unfortunately lost their last game one-nil, after having many chances to score, and got knocked out on goal difference as two other teams had the same results.
The Under 12s team was Emily, Fiona, Ella, Mabli, Alex, Charlotte, Teigan, Kacy and Florence.
The Under 14s girls travelled with only six girls, but were able to play thanks to Kilgetty and a team from Llanyrafon lending players to make up the numbers. Unfortunately, at the end of their first game, Delun went over on her ankle and was unable to carry on playing. The girls played really well against some good opposition and were unlucky to lose their first three games. They finished the day strongly, with a really good performance which ended in a draw. The team for the day was Olwen, Jasmine, Halle, Delun, Hope and Ellie.
The day finished with the girls having time to go around the Champions League festival which was held in Cardiff Bay, where some got the chance to take part in football activities, while some took the time to get some souvenirs.
Afterwards, the girls were taken to the Cardiff City stadium where they got the chance to watch Lyon against PSG in the Women’s Champions League Final.
The girls and parents had a fantastic day, one that they will remember for a long time.
