This week, the girls welcomed Fishguard to St. Florence for the latest round of games kindly sponsored by Greenhills Hotel, St. Florence.

Under 12s

Having won their first two games of the season, the girls wanted to keep the run going. St. Florence started well and were quickly on the attack. Teigan and Mabli both had shots blocked by their defence before a ball played into the area by Fiona was deflected into their own goal by Fishguard. Tamika, Ella and Maddie were playing well in defence not allowing the opposition a shot on goal. St. Florence soon got their second goal when a through ball by Connie put Alex through on goal and she calmly shot passed their keeper.

Maddie and Ella both had shots that unfortunatly missed the goal. There was some good passing between Charlotte, Fiona and Mabli that ended with chances being created and they were unlucky not to score more. The third goal finally came when Emily and Teigan exchanged passes which opened up their defence for Teigan to score.

In the final 20 minutes, Fishguard proved they hadn’t given up when they managed to get a goal back.

This fired St. Florence on to push for more goals. Maddie got St. Florence forth goal when she scored from Mabli’s corner. Kacy, Marli and Florence did well in defence to stop Fishguard scoring again. St. Florence got a fifth goal when Charlotte scored from a rebound after her first shot was saved.

The girls played really well and deserved to keep their winning run going.

St. Florence 5 Fishguard 1.

Team: Ella, Emily, Fiona, Tamika, Connie, Maddie, Charlotte, Florence, Teigan, Mabli, Kacy, Marli and Alex.

Under 14s

With only five girls in St. Florence’s team, they played five-a-side against Fishguard’s 10 girls. Since they only started playing together a few weeks ago, the St. Florence girls have shown great attitude and commitment to playing with each other.

With Fishguard being able to rotate their players, the St. Florence girls had to work really hard and played some good football. The girls having a chance to play in different positions seem to get better every time they play. Delun and Olwen continue to show progression in every aspect of their game from their passing and control and their tackling. Hope and Jasmine showed great attitude and their tackling and passing often broke up the opposition attacks and helped set-up their own attacks. Halle never stopped running and always pushes the team forward to try and score. She was rewarded today with a good goal.

If the girls carry on with this attitude, the results will soon start going their way. Great display from all the girls.

St. Florence 1 Fishguard 8.
