While many footballers will be relishing playing later in the season than usual, the prolonged campaign has only added to St. Clears’ misery as their annus horribilis continued.
With just one more game to complete after Saturday’s 4-0 drubbing at Angle, the division one’s basement club will be hoping to at least finish on a high so they can prepare for next season’s fresh challenge in division two.
Narberth, meanwhile, also went down to defeat without scoring following a 2-0 home loss against Hakin United that helped the Vikings stay top of the tree.
Lamphey secured promotion to division one with a resounding 6-0 win at Solva, with Monkton Swifts losing 1-0 at Clarbeston Road, therefore sacrificing some much-needed points against them in the push for promotion also.
Saundersfoot Sports drew 2-2 at Goodwick United seconds.
In division three, Kilgetty’s Josh Bevan scored all of his side’s goals during their 6-2 win over Hubberston, which was their 16th win of the campaign, while a Carl Jones goal wasn’t enough to prevent Narberth seconds from going down 5-1 at home against Cosheston Cougars.
Pennar Robins’ seconds beat Manorbier United 8-2, while Carew seconds lost 6-0 at home against Merlins Bridge’s reserves.
Pendine had little trouble in beating Fishguard Sports at home after they racked up a 6-0 win, with Robbie Waters stealing the show by completing a hat-trick. Ricky Lewis scored two and Kieran Lewis the other in a dominant win that keeps their promotion hopes intact.
The Gulls, having played 23 games, are on 53 points, a spot below second place Angle seconds, who are on 64 points. However, Angle have just two games left, meaning the maximum number of points they can get is 70.
Should Pendine win their remaining seven games, they would pip Angle by one. It’s going to be tight.
Narberth thirds went down 3-0 at Pennar Robins’ thirds, while goals from Nathan Bowen and Lewis Driscoll helped St. Clears’ seconds draw 2-2 with St Ishmaels’ reserves.
Angle seconds secured an excellent win at Neyland seconds, winning 6-0, while Pembroke Boro beat Letterston seconds 3-1.
St. Florence and Carew thirds drew 1-1.
Finally, in division five, Kilgetty seconds lost 2-1 at home against Broad Haven seconds. At Camrose, Monkton Swifts’ seconds beat the hosts 4-2, while Hundleton seconds beat Lawrenny seconds by the same margin.
Congratulations also to Lamphey seconds as they beat Pembroke Boro 9-0 and secured promotion to division four as a result.
The game between Tenby seconds and Milford United thirds was postponed.
