Carew cricket club may be used to being top of the division one cricket table but for their football club that privilege is a rarity.
If they keep performing the way they did against Milford United on Saturday then they better gets used to it as that is where they are after the latest round of matches.
In beating Milford United 8-0, they cemented themselves as one of the best teams in Pembrokeshire this season.
It helps that they have a player of Jordan Richards’ calibre too as his hat-trick helped set the wrecking ball rolling. Lloyd Hughes hit two with the others coming from Shaun Whitfield, James Hinchcliffe and Iain Derbyshire.
Not such a happy weekend for Pennar Robins though after they went down to an 8-4 loss at Clarbeston Road.
Pennar’s goals came from Rhys Sture, Josh Clark, Ben Adams and Sam Southcott.
Like Carew, Monkton are having a good season and they proved this with a 2-2 draw at Goodwick United with the goals coming from Jimmy Russell and the prolific Dylan Davies.
It was all square at Lamphey as the hosts drew 2-2 with St Clears. Lamphey’s goals were scored by Jack Richards and Eavan Stanfield while Steve Thomas struck twice for the Saints.
A poor weekend for Saundersfoot Sports too with a 5-0 defeat at Merlins Bridge.
In division two Hundleton went down 5-0 at home against Solva while Kilgetty lost 3-2 against Merlins Bridge’s seconds.
Lawrenny secured a draw at home against Broad Haven with Owen James and Tom Cole each scoring once in the 2-2 result while in the first round of the Third Division Cup, Monkton Swifts’ seconds hammered Fishguard seconds 5-0.
Morgan Day struck twice for the hosts with the other goals coming from Ryan Boswell, Luke Hendry and Liam Butland.
The game between Narberth seconds and Goodwick was postponed as the visitors to Jesse Road were unable to field a side while Carew seconds prevailed over Pembroke Boro winning 5-2.
Phil John and Kieron Walton scored for the Boro with Carew’s goals coming from Corey Hill, Carl Thomas and three for Harvey Langstone.
Pendine overcame Pembroke Boro 5-2 after extra time while St Clears used extra time too to beat St Florence 3-2. Andy McCabe struck twice for the Saints and Joe Court the other while for St Clears, Ashley Smith and Jamie Roberts were the goal scorers.
Cosheston had one of the biggest wins of the day overcoming Pembroke Boro seconds 7-1. Jamie Aires scored for the Boro but two each for Lee Dignan and Dalton Boswell together with one each for Simon Lewis, Darren Mason and Gavin Wickland ensured the hosts won comfortably.
Pennar thirds beat Llangwm/H’West CC 2-1 thanks to goals from Liam Shehan and Nathan Ketterick while a goa from Ollie Gamble is all Kilgetty seconds had to show for their 4-1 loss away at St Ishmaels’ seconds.
Carew thirds lost 7-1 at Johnston seconds but Tenby had a fabulous result at Letterston winning 12-0.
Daryl Mansbridge led the way scoring five and Mike Ryder struck four.
The other goals came from Cameron Ennis, Billy Lawrence and Arby Harwood.
An own goal was all Lawrenny seconds had to show for their 3-1 loss at Monkton thirds while Saundersfoot Sports went down 3-2 at home against Newport Tigers despite goals from Nate Owen and Gareth Howells.
