Kilgetty’s Liam Cullen had a night to remember on Wednesday night as he grabbed his first senior goal for Swansea City FC in a must win match away to Reading FC.

Going into the game, sitting in seventh position, the Swans needed the 3 points, and either Cardiff or Nottingham Forest to slip up to sneak into the play-off positions.

Coming on as substitute, the Welsh under 21 international put Swansea 1-3 up in the 84th minute at the Madejski Stadium, and with news that Forest were losing their home game, goal difference was the main factor, with the Welsh side needing a five-goal turnaround to make the coveted play-offs.

In a dramatic climax, Swansea grabbed an injury time fourth, and with Forest conceding another to see them lose 1-4, the remarkable twist was complete!

Swansea will now take on Brentford in a two-legged play off semi (first leg at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, July 26, 6.30 pm kick off) and with Cardiff playing Fulham in the other match-up, a Welsh derby at Wembley for a place in the Premier League could be on the cards next month.

After the match, Liam Tweeted: “Couldn’t be prouder to score my first senior goal for this club on a night like tonight. Unbelievable achievement from everyone and can’t wait for the play offs.”
