Kilgetty AFC U13s have been very lucky and selected to be one of 11 teams from throughout the UK to be a part of an initiative which sees a tie-up between Chelsea Football Club and one of its main sponsors, Hyundai UK.

Local Hyundai main dealer Station Garage in Kilgetty nominated the team and they were selected from around 150 other teams to take part.

The first stage was to get a brand new team strip which has already come through, one for all 22 players!

The second stage was a trip to the home ground of Chelsea, Stamford Bridge. This happened at the end of May and was thoroughly enjoyed by all players, parents and coaches who attended.

The day started early and a bus courtesy of Narberth Travel took the team on their journey. A meet and greet was followed by a stadium tour and ended in one of the hospitality suites. Snacks and drinks were taken on before a team of Chelsea coaches took all players out onto the pitch for some training sessions.

Chelsea legend Gus Poyet was on hand and even joined in a six-a-side game at the end. A penalty shootout for coaches and parents ended the day’s activities, with a barbeque and refreshments being enjoyed before the trip home! A long but totally enjoyable day.... even for the non-Chelsea fans!

The last stage is happening soon when a few Chelsea community coaches will be making the long trip down to Pembrokeshire to give an evening session to the coaches and to put on a morning session for the team. All will be looking forward to that.

This will only be the first step in this initiative and there are more plans for the partnership to continue
