The Chris Richards Memorial Game was held at Narberth on Boxing Day.

The match, the brainchild of Chris’ son Tom, marks the start of what will hopefully, be an annual event, followed by a social function at the RAOB Club in Narberth.

All proceeds from the game and the subsequent raffle will be shared between Narberth Cricket Club, Narberth Football Club and Narberth First Responders.

A minute’s silence was held before the match as a mark of respect for the late Chris Richards, before Narberth FC and a Richards Select XI (put together by Tom Richards and Paul ‘Bilko’ Harries) started the game.

Played on an absolute quagmire of a pitch and superbly refereed by Huw George in a festive outfit, the match was an indication of what sport should be, with comic own goals and lots of fun, with advantages taken from corner kicks with players riding high on teammates shoulders!

There was an abundance of goals, including one from young Luke Hughes where it seemed his intrepid attack absolutely mesmerised the Narberth FC defence, allowing an almost open goal!

Not without the skill one would expect at least from the Narberth FC players, the game was a real treat for all to behold on a miserable and wet Boxing Day and was followed by a delicious hot and cold buffet provided by the Narberth RAOB.

Prizes for the raffle were donated by: Sue Shakesby of The Pain Clinic South Wales, Narberth; The Dragon Inn, Narberth, The Plas Hotel, Narberth; J. O. Griffiths Butchers of Narberth; Charlies Restaurant, Reynalton; The Glen, Haverfordwest; Annies Kitchen at the RAOB Club, Narberth; The Ivy Bush, Narberth; The RAOB Club, Narberth; Costcutters of Narberth, and various other prizes.
