Yet another warm, sunny day was waiting at Tenby Golf Clubf or the European and USA teams to take up their third annual charity challenge. This year it was to raise money for a locally based charity, Paul Sartori.

At 9 am, the ladies’ teams gathered for bacon rolls plus tea or coffee while they awaited their match pairs to be announced. The team captains played their usual singles match while everyone else played foursomes. We had our own ‘camera crew’ following us throughout the course this year, so if there was a ‘slip-up’ it was caught on film! Ball spotters were strategically placed to help speed up the game.

Refreshments were once again located on the 12th. Sangria and Pimms plus homemade nibbles were a welcome sight for the weary competitors.

A well fought battle took place and the teams waited with bated breath on the patio (yet more drinks…) as the players emerged over the hill on the 18th. The final score was a resounding win for Europe!

The teams plus their helpers enjoyed a magnificent meal by our resident chef and his excellent staff, during which it came to light that there were some amazing putts from Liz Storey and Marion Clarke.

The ‘man of the match’ accolade went to Sue Shooter of Team Europe. It was obviously her day. No hole in one was recorded so the ‘car’ was returned.

My thanks of course must go to the team captains, ball spotters, camera crew, refreshment crew and not forgetting Ian Gravell, of Gravells Kia Garage, Narberth, for sponsoring the event. (Let’s hope this result will be mirrored in the actual Solheim Cup in Germany this September!).
