Week two of the Thomas Carroll. Pembroke County Cricket League and Cresselly had the tightest of winning draws against Haverfordwest after they posted 169 all out with the town finishing on 166-7.
That they got so close was in no small part down to Simon Holliday who backed up his opening day hundred v Burton with an innings of 90 against the division one favourites, only getting out when he was caught on the boundary going for the win.
He took five wickets too as only Alex Bailey with 29 and Dan Cherry with 43 got scores of note. In reply, Cherry took two wickets and Dan James three.
Kilgetty were walloped at home to Burton after the visitors to Kingsmoor scored 146-5 with Ross Hardy taking a brace of wickets. In reply they were all out for 51 to lose by 95 runs.
There was a cracking game at Lawrenny after the hosts overcame Whitland’s challenge with the Borderers making 164 all out after Rob Williams took three wickets and Ryan Morton two.
For Whitland, Jonathan Thomas scored 49, Adam Davies 33 and huw Dibble 25.
In reply, Lawrenny passed it for the loss of seven wickets thanks to James Phillips’ 59 and Brad Jenkins’ 33.
Iestyn Scourfield took 2-36 and Dylan Blain 3-24.
In division two, Carew had few issues in overcoming Llechryd after the North pembrokeshire outfit were dismissed for just 88 following Tom Davies’ 5-17 and Shaun Whitfield’s 3-18
Ian Sefton then struck 44 not out and Rhys Davies 26 not out in the eight wicket win.
Cresselly seconds hammered Haverfordwest seconds who were all out for 31 in reply to the hosts’ 166-6. At one stage they were struggling to make double figures being reduced to 6-6 after old boys Lyn Richards and Richard Harris caused havoc taking 4-13 and 4-3 respectively.
Earlier Harris hit 36 and Neal Williams 65.
Narberth made it two wins for two after they easily accounted for Pembroke who could only muster 89-9.
There were two wickets each for Ben and Kyle Quartermaine and Ben Hughes while in reply, Kyle struck a fluent 60 not out to seal the win.
Young Tom Mansbridge shone once against for Saundersfoot after his innings of 52 not out and 2-33 helped his team beat Whitland seconds.
Whitland were all out for 116 as Martin Thomas struck 37 while Sam Franklin took five wickets and Yannik Parker two.
Mansbridge then made easy picking of the run chase with Franklin also in the runs scoring 31.
There was no game between Hook and Stackpole after Stackpole failed to raise a side.
David Blackwell’s first game of the season was successful for Lamphey after his 7-12 helpd bowl Herbrandston out for just 21. Grant Cole was also in on the act taking 3-7.
Gianluca Trimarco’s 10 helped Lamphey pass it for the loss of three wickets.
Shock of the day was at Narberth however after the hosts, promoted from division four last season beat Carew seconds who are only playing in division three by default after they were demoted during the winter.
No-one would have foreseen the win after Narberth hit 90-8 with Rob Nicholas scoring 30 and Chris Spratt 23. Kerry Waters took 4-12 for carew.
In reply Nicholas took five wickets as Carew were bundled out for 78. Only James Hinchliffe and Scott Richards had scores of note.
Pembroke Dock travelled to Llanrhian and had an excellent winning draw helped by Peter Kingdom scoring 75 in their 194-4. Nick Daley was also on form hitting 58 not out.
He took wickets too taking 4-32 as Llanrhian closed on 189-9.
Lawrenny had an easy nine wicket win over Haverfordwest thirds who were all out for 42 thanks to Steve Cole’s two wickets and J. Tuckers’ three.
In division four only two games were played with Burton seconds and Hook seconds drawing and Laugharne losing to St Ishmaels by four wickets after they were all out for 144.
Only one game was played in division five as Carew thirds thrashes Pembroke Dock seconds by 101 runs.
Carew scored 117-8 thanks to Elliott Waters’ 31 not out and A. Hipson’s unbeaten 28.
Darren Thomas then took 6-5 and Rhys Canton 4-11 as the Dock were all out for 18. Earlier Steve Alford took 4-16 for the hosts.
