As expected, the start of the 2018 cricket season was affected by rain, with the majority of matches being postponed, although the ones that did take place produced some interesting performances and results.

Division one favourites, Cresselly, started in style with a seven-wicket win over new boys Llangwm, who batted first and scored 130 all out after Simon Cole took five wickets and Ryan Lewis three.

Cresselly then lost three quick wickets, including new signing Dan Sutton and opening partner Adam Chandler, while Iwan Izzard also fell cheaply, but then Dan Cherry came in to score 47 not out, with Alex Bailey hitting a superb unbeaten 53 to see the hosts home.

Whitland were at home to Johnston and would have been expected to beat the Tigers quite comfortably, but no animal is quite as ferocious as a cornered Tiger and that’s how it proved as the visitors hung on for a draw.

Whitland scored 147-8 thanks to Dylan Blain’s 53 and had the visitors hanging on at 84-8 as Iestyn Scourfield and Jonathan Thomas both took three wickets.

Kilgetty’s home game against Lawrenny was postponed.

In division two, Carew’s first appearance in the division ended in an easy victory over Cresselly seconds who were skittled for 67 in reply to the Rooks’ 177 all out.

Matthew Lewis took 4-48 for Cresselly, while Tom Scourfield hit 55 and Ceri Brace took 4-6 for the hosts.

Narberth’s pitch beat the weather, which was a surprise to many except the town’s groundsmen, and they ended up winning by six wickets against Hook who scored 157-9.

Lewis Hough took 4-25 for Narberth, before Richie Adams hit 60 and Loui Davies 41 and Kyle Quartermain 38 not out.

Saundersfoot’s game with Stackpole was abandoned, while Pembroke narrowly missed out on victory at Haverfordwest who were hanging on at 120-9 in reply to Pembroke’s 130-7.

Jack Harries scored 48 for Pembroke and Phil Hay 24, while Barry Evans took 3-35 and Jonathan Rogers 4-26.

Carew seconds got life in division three off to a winning start with a nine-wicket win at Lawrenny, who were dismissed for 125, despite Harry Thomas’s 85 not out.

Rob Scourfield took four wickets for Carew, before Robbie Hicks scored 67 not out in the reply.

Pembroke Dock entertained Llechryd seconds and recovered from being 29-5 to post a respectable 155 all out, thanks to Rob Hearne’s 50 and James White’s 25.

Llechryd were then dismissed for 98 as John Cumani took 3-17 and Billy Wood 3-16.

Narberth seconds had a winning start to the season with an eight-wicket win at Neyland seconds, who were dismissed for 78 after Rob Dyer’s 4-17. Andrew Williams then hit 32 not out in the reply.

In division four, Saundersfoot seconds had a good six-wicket win at Llangwm seconds after they were dismissed for 130 thanks to Tom Mansbridge and Yannik Parker’s four wickets apiece.

Mansbridge was on form with the bat, too, hitting 54 not out, while Phil Jones struck 36.

Meanwhile, in division five, Pembroke seconds overcame Pembroke Dock seconds after they posted 166-2 thanks to Chris Thomas’s 78 not out and Adie Phillips’s 72 not out.

The Dock then finished on 82-8, with Johnny Hay hitting 35 not out.
