Kilgetty sit top of division one of the Kevin Pearce Thomas Carroll Pembroke County Cricket League after the first round of matches following a 107-run victory over Pembroke.

It’s the first season in the top flight for many seasons for both teams and the Kingsmoor outfit came out on top after scoring 220-7 in their innings thanks to Kyle Marsh’s 69 and Kurtis Marsh’s 50. Jack Parkinson also got in on the act with an unbeaten 31.

For Pembroke, Jonathan Rogers, Anton John and Sam Davies all took two wickets.

In reply, Rogers scored 39 as Pembroke were skittled for 113 as Kurtis took 4-28, while Ross Hardy took 3-32.

As expected, Carew came out on top in their home game against Johnston with a comfortable eight-wicket win.

Johnston were all out for 153 after Ceri Brace took 6-34 and Rhys Davies 2-16.

Davies then struck a fluent 66 together with Tim Hicks’s 67 not out to seal the points.

Up the hill at Cresselly, the hosts came out on top against Lawrenny, winning by seven wickets.

Lawrenny were all out for 147 despite Brad Jenkins’s 42 and James Buckle’s 28 as Neil Gregory took 4-45 and Ryan Lewis 3-18.

In reply, the hosts passed the total for the loss of three wickets as Simon Cole scored 60 and Phil Williams 25.

Meanwhile at St. Ishmaels, Whitland’s first game ended in a seven-wicket defeat after they were all out for just 141.

Iestyn Scourfield scored 56 and Matthew Davies 26, but with wickets falling at regular intervals the hosts were always on top.

Young Tom Mansbridge may have scored 92 for Saundersfoot in their 167 all out at home to Narberth, yet his brilliant innings proved to be in vain as the visitors won by six wickets.

Tom Pappachan scored 21 for the hosts, but Louis Davies’s 4-21 and Ben Hughes’s 2-35 ensured their runs were kept in check.

In reply, Richie Adams hit 42 and Jordan Howells 50 to get their season off to a winning start.

Carew seconds went down by 93 at Llechryd after former Kilgetty player Johnny Lewis scored 41 in their 171-6.

Carew were then all out for a mere 78, despite Dai Rees having a fine all round game, taking 4-40 and scoring 49.

Stackpole lost to Llangwm by 120 runs after the visitors cruised to 252-6, despite Huw Cox’s 4-71.

He was in the runs, too, hitting 30 in reply alongside Josh Davies’s 36 but the Lillies were dismissed for just 132.

Defeat for Whitland seconds, too, as they were all out for 46 at home to Llanrhian who passed the total for the loss of no wickets.

The ageless Andrew Skeels continues to defy Father Time as the wily slow left-armer took 3-15 for Lamphey in their 186-run win at Johnston.

The Stags batted first and scored 232-6 thanks to Scott Brunton’s 61, Nick Shelmerdine’s unbeaten 32 and Gianluca Trimarco’s 37.

Johnston were then all out for 46 after failing to deal with Skeels and the rest of the visitors’ bowling.

Cresselly seconds were in the runs at Lawrenny scoring 241-7 after Jim Kinnear hit 54 and Tom Arthur 50. Barry Phillips took 3-54 for the Gavenyards.

In reply, Lawrenny could only muster 90-6 as Huw Griffiths hit 38 after Arthur and Bobby Webb both took a brace of wickets.

A winning start for Pembroke Dock, too, as they beat Llanrhian seconds by eight wickets.

The visitors dismissed the Cows for just 61 before passing it with ease.

In division four, Kilgetty seconds ensured the double over Pembroke, dismissing the hosts for 97 in reply to their 159 all out.

Antony Lewis scored 40 for the victors and Max James 27 not out, while Matthew Lewis took 4-20 in the reply.

For Pembroke, Ryan Wilkins scored 26, with Robbie Hearne taking 3-14.

Narberth seconds ensured a double over Saundersfoot, too, as they won by eight wickets.

Saundersfoot were all out for 120, with Narberth reaching it for the loss of two.

For the hosts, Chris Spratt scored 43, Andrew Williams 29 and Huw Simpkins 21 not out, with Richard Howells taking 3-16, while for Saundersfoot, Danny James struck a swashbuckling 70 not out, with Cory Morris scoring 25.

There were plenty of runs at Hundleton after the home team scored 203-6 in reply to St. Ishmaels seconds’ 221-4. Jon Williams hit 58 for the hosts and John Tysoe 38, with David Lockyer striking 23 not out.

Meanwhile, in division five, Laugharne’s return to the league ended in an easy win over Cresselly seconds after Craig Hurst and Kevin Pearce both scored 100 not out in their 280-5.

Cresselly were then dismissed for just 65 after J. Ingleton and Carl Smith took four and two wickets, respectively.

Stackpole seconds went down by nine wickets at Llangwm after scoring 143-5 in their innings, with Russell Roberts hitting 50 and Jonathan Hughes 34, while Pembroke Dock seconds lost by 121 runs at home to Whitland thirds after Whiland scored 187-7 thanks to Jeremy Woods’s 47 and Mark Lee’s 36. Lee then took 3-13 in reply with Gwyn Phillips taking 2-7 after scoring 26.

For the Dock, Archie Wood took 2-49 and Glyn Griffiths 3-16, while Simon Smith-Wrench scored 24 and John Davies the same.
