Whitland’s defeat of Neyland produced one of the shocks of the day in the Thomas Carroll Pembroke County Cricket League.

After Neyland’s loss against Lawrenny last week few would have betted against them bouncing back to produce a thumping victory over the Borderers however Whitland had other ideas after an inspired bowling performance held the visitors to 145-7.

Matthew Davies and Wayne Howells led the way, both taking three wickets.

In reply, the hosts only lost four wickets after Dylan Blain’s 56 and Steffan James’s 44 not out saw them romp to a commanding six wicket win.

Cresselly jumped to the top of the table after a routine win over Kilgetty. Batting first, the Doves racked up 271-6 thanks to Adam Chandler’s 64, Dan Sutton’s 1 and Iwan Izzard’s 53.

Liam Cullen took 4-63 for the visitors.

In reply, Cullen was on form with the bat hitting 44 while Kurtis March hit 67 and Kyle Marsh 33 but Kilgetty were dismissed for 203.

Sion Jenkins took 4-39 for the hosts.

Lawrenny produced a fine performance down at St Ishmaels after a tense one wicket win over the home side.

Tish batted first and scored 195 all out after the father and son combination of Brad McDermott Jenkins and Ian Jenkins shared six wickets.

In reply, despite a regular flurry of wickets Lawrenny scraped over the line thanks to Harry Thomas’s 35 and Joe Kidney’s 31 not out.

In division two, Carew continue to sweep all before them after a five-wicket win against Saundersfoot.

Batting first, Saundersfoot reached 194-8 with the in-form Sam Franklin hitting 63 and Yannik Parker 46. Shaun Whitfield was on fire with the ball, taking 4-37 for the Rooks.

He was on fire with the bat too hitting a quick-fire 69 with Max Brindley hitting 36 in the five wicket win.

Narberth remain second in the table after drawing with Cresselly seconds although they had to dig in to achieve that result.

Cresselly could only score 158-8 in their innings as Sam Harts hit 27 and Matthew Lewis 26.

Narberth were held to 146-8 after Richard Harris took three wickets. Jordan Howell hit 33 not out for the home team and Lewis Hough 29.

Pembroke secured their second win of the season with a fine four-wicket victory up at Llechryd.

Batting first the home team scored 168-9 with Jonathan Rogers taking three wickets.

In reply they scored 169-6 thanks to 62 from Barry Evans and 38 from Andrew Hay.

Stackpole the home side had a scare against Whitland seconds when the division’s bottom club bowled them out for 97 thanks to Greg Sleeps’s 6-29.

Richard MacKay then steamed n to take 4-24 as the visitors were all out for 59.

It’s tense at the top of division three with Pembroke Dock, Carew seconds and Lamphey all within striking distance of each other and Narberth seconds not far behind too.

Carew had to settle for a winning draw at home to Haverfordwest thirds. The Rooks hit 171-6 thanks to skipper Dai Rees’s 52 and Jacob Knox’s 37, while The Town closed on 130-8 after Kerry Waters took 3-12.

Lamphey had a win at Lawrenny who were indebted to Tom Cole’s hard hitting 50 for their total of 140 all out after being skittled by the Skeels’.

Andrew Skeels took 5-46 and James 3-31 for the Stags.

In reply, Peter McGilloway struck 50 and David Blackwell an unbeaten 40 to secure a six-wicket win.

The Dock continue to set the standard, however, after they won their fifth game of the season to beat Narberth seconds by seven wickets.

Narberth were all out for 143 with Tom Shellwood scoring 35, while in reply, Nick Daley scored 54 and Luke Murray 33 in the successful chase.

Connor Carroll took 4-20 for the hosts and Jamie White 3-15.

In division four, Laugharne accounted for Hundleton with a commanding 105 run win.

Batting firs,t they scored 228-4 thanks to Shane Williams’s 81 not out and Callum Davies’s 47 and Carl Stephenson’s 46.

Stephenson was on form with the ball too, taking 5-20 as Hundleton were all out for 123, Jonathan Williams scoring 33 and David Lockyer 25.

Saundersfoot Seconds were defeated by Hook seconds who secured a seven-wicket win after the Foot were held at 140-5 in their allocated overs.

Dan James scored 40 not out for the visitors and Paul Morris 29.

Hook only lost three wickets in passing the total.

Finally, in division five, Cresselly thirds had a bye, while Pembroke Seconds continue to lead the way following a five-wicket win over Neyland thirds.

Neyland were skittled for just 81 as Barry Dilworth and Nigel Phillips both took three wickets and passed the total for the loss of five wickets.

Kilgetty seconds had a day to remember at home to Pembroke Dock winning by 114 runs.

The Kingsmoor outfit scored 221 all out on their innings, Andrew Evans hitting 85 and Richard Gwyther 62. Andrew Wood took three wickets for the Dock.

In reply, Neil Hallett scored 21, but no-one else could get going as Matthew Lewis took 3-11.

Carew thirds had little trouble beating Stackpole seconds after the Lilies were restricted to 86-6 in their innings. Jeremy Griffiths and Aaron Hinman both taking two wickets.

Carew eased to a six-wicket win thanks to Iori Hicks’s 24.

Meanwhile, Whitland thirds went down to an eight-wicket defeat at Haverfordwest fourths.

Whitland scored 112-9, with Ed John hitting 29, Dan Rees 21 and Dafydd Jones 21 not out, but the hosts passed it for the loss of three wickets.
