Martletwy YFC member, Tom Jones, will be travelling to Northern Ireland in May as an ambassador to represent Wales YFC. The opportunity to travel to Northern Ireland is one of the exchange programmes offered by Wales YFC to its members as a part of the international programme.
Tom was selected by panellists to represent Wales YFC on the exchange and will spend two weeks with families of YFC members in Northern Ireland. The trip will also coincide with the Royal Balmoral Show.
Tom, 22, is currently working as a farm worker on a family farm after graduating with BSc Honours in Physical Geography from the University of Glamorgan. He has been a member of the YFC for nine years. He is past chairman of the club and has taken part in a number of competitions, including numerous stock judging, public speaking and entertainment. Outside of the YFC he plays rugby for Narberth Athletic and enjoys road cycling and socialising.
"I chose to apply for a trip with the international programme as it would be an opportunity to experience a different culture and way of life to which I am used to. I hope to meet new people and make new friends from the experience as well as seeing a bit of Northern Ireland and learning about its history and heritage," said Tom.
Accompanying Tom will be Angharad Thomas, a member of Vale of Towy YFC, Carmarthenshire.
The Wales YFC international programme aims to encourage young people's understanding of other cultures and give them the opportunity to travel and to discover new experiences. The programme also asks clubs and the young people who are members to host exchangees from similar organisations over the summer months. Travelling with the YFC is a totally unique experience, members will get to know and share experiences with members of similar organisations across the world and make new and lasting friendships.
