Work has begun to protect the future of a Grade II Listed Building known as Quay Stores, in Milford Haven.

The Port of Milford Haven announced in March last year that Covid had impacted its original plans for the building, having left a great deal of uncertainty in the marketplace.

Steve Edwards, Commercial Director at the Port of Milford Haven, said:

"We were really disappointed to take the decision last year not to progress with our original investment plans for Quay Stores. Despite this, we are committed to securing the future of this important building and are investing over £1.5m to replace the roof and carry out other much needed works. The building sits in an advantageous position directly opposite the entrance to Milford Waterfront and close to the new TÅ· Hotel and we are confident we can find a sustainable use for it in the future."

Over the next couple of months John Weaver Contractors Ltd, specialists in building conservation work, will demolish the rear warehouse and erect scaffolding around the listed building to enable surveys to be undertaken. The scaffolding will be put up in a way to minimise disruption to pedestrians and vehicles using Victoria Road. Once the surveys are complete then the replacement of the roof and internal structure of the building will follow. The works will be carried out in accordance with the Listed Building Consent. It is expected that by the autumn the building will be in a weather-tight condition, ensuring its future conservation.
