A Whitland window display paying homage to a classic tale has led to a flurry of visitors keen to have a glimpse through the looking glass.
Amser Te - tea room and cake shop on St John Street, has had such a good response to its Alice in Wonderland shop-front layout, it has seen people marching off the nearby train station to view it, in the year which marks the 150th anniversary of the Lewis Carroll novel.
Christine White, the woman behind the display celebrating the adventures and characters in the beloved children’s tale, admits that she wasn’t even aware that it was a milestone anniversary of the book.
“It was just pure coincidence, but it just seemed fitting for a tea shop,” she said.
It’s not Christine’s first display that has caught the eye, as she has previously recreated a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and a popular Easter gnome creation for the tea room.
“For the Alice in Wonderland display I also enlisted the help of Abi Rogers, the daughter of the Mayor of Narberth, who is studying at Carmarthen art college, and she produced wonderful versions of characters such as the Mad Hatter, March Hare and Tweedledum and Tweedledee,” explained Christine, who already has her Christmas exhibition ideas lined up.
“The displays have definitely drawn people in, and the kids love them... along with the adults too!” remarked the premises’ owner, Christine Young.
“I’ve had people from Tenby and Carmarthen tell me that they’ve got off at the train stop in Whitland just to come and have a look at the latest display!” added creator Christine.
