Tenants at St. David's Avenue Sheltered Scheme, Whitland, are throwing open their doors to welcome new friends.

An open day is being held at the scheme today (Friday, September 20), when members of the community can join them for coffee, cake and a look around.

They'll also be amongst the first to see a new 'show flat', so people can experience what it would be like to live at the scheme.

St. David's Avenue is one of several sheltered schemes operated by Carmarthenshire council all across the county.

The flats allow people aged 60 and over to live independently, but with the added comfort of security and community.

Each has its own front door, with new kitchen and bathroom suites and on-site laundry facilities.

There is also a communal lounge and picturesque gardens.

Housing officer Suzanne Llewellyn said: "It would be lovely to see lots of new faces come to visit us as part of the open day. I know that tenants are eager to meet new friends, and will be happy to show people around if they would like to, or - if they prefer - they can just pop in for a coffee."

The open day will be held between 10 am and 4 pm. For further information, call 01267 234567.
