After marking its 50th anniversary last year, Whitland Carnival 2015 was determined to celebrate summer in style and top previous festivities, despite having to endure some wet weather.

With events kicking-off at 1.15 pm with the crowning of the Carnival Queen at Parc Dr Owen, the carnival procession was in full flow shortly after 1.45 pm, with the colourful cavalcade heading off from Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn, fronted by Samba Doc, and the West Side Comedy Band, joining in at the rear of the procession.

A packed programme of fun and games filled the day, featuring vintage vehicles, Air Training Corps, the Arts Care Gofal Celf Whitland Community Dancers performing a street dance routine, fair ground rides and various stalls.

Narberth and Whitland Round Table and Narberth and Whitland Rotary, along with the local WI and fire brigade were also in attendance to join in the big day.

The carnival’s ‘best overall float’ prize, sponsored by Taf Valley Coaches and Whitland Engineering, was won by the ‘Pirates of Whitland.’

“Even though we had a couple of heavy showers carnival day still went well,” said Whitland Week committee member Jane Owen-Edwards.
