Five cadets and two staff from the no 3 Welsh Wing flew in the RAF Voyager Tanker aircraft as part of the RAF Flypast over Buckingham Palace for Her Majesty's birthday last Saturday.
The cadets were Sgt Menna Morgan (334 Neath); CWO JS McNicol (948 Haverfordwest); CWO MD John (1092 Bridgend); CWO ND Cooper (2117 Kenfig Hill) and FS Jack Brennan (2420 Whitland,) pictured front centre.
Jack said afterwards it was an amazing opportunity to take part in this flypast.
Next Saturday, June 29, cadets from Whitland will be attending the 14 Signals Regiment families day at Cawdor Barracks. The cadets will enjoy various displays, including freefall parachute displays, helicopter rides and military displays.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Squadron will be open for the cadets to continue with the Ghillie Suit project. These high-quality ghillie suits are made by hand; most military snipers generally construct their own unique suits. Manufactured ghillie suits can be assembled from up to six pieces. Proper camouflage requires the use of natural materials present in the environment in which a sniper will operate. Making a ghillie suit from scratch is time-consuming, and a detailed, high-quality suit can take weeks or even months to manufacture and season. The cadets have produced their own to use on fieldcraft exercises.
The Air Training Corps is a national voluntary youth organisation, open to young men and women aged between 13 and 20. Flying, gliding, sports, shooting and adventure training are some of the activities which cadets participate in.
For further information on Whitland ATC as an adult volunteer or cadet, contact the Squadron next to the fire station in Whitland on parade nights, Monday and Friday evenings, 6.30 to 9.30 pm.
