If you were watching live bands in south west Wales in the early 1970s chances are that you came across Whirlwind.

This four-piece band played venues throughout Pembrokeshire – and at one gig they were mobbed by teenage autograph hunters!

“We were waiting to go on stage and the announcer said that we’d been on TV – next thing we knew there was a queue of kids waiting to get our autographs,” recalled lead singer Brian Pratt of Pembroke Dock.

Brian has kept an extensive scrapbook of all the band’s gigs including posters, programmes and tickets.

“I just kept everything,” he said.

Brian was interested to read of the memories of the Queens Hall Narberth’s golden years. He played the venue supporting celebrated clarinetist Acker Bilk in 1971.

In later years Whirlwind became Deep Joy and were in big demand across Pembrokeshire.
