The wintry weather conditions did not put too many vendors or buyers off from Whitland Mart last Tuesday, February 3, with many braving the snowy conditions to benefit from the fast trade.
The 255 or so lambs that were forward sold to a very good trade with the medium lambs making an average price p/kg of 176p or £64/head.
Top price pert kilo was 192 for 39 kg lambs from Gilfach Farms Ltd and bidding peaked at £78.70 for 47-and-a-half kg lambs from Williams, Llwynonill Fawr. The overall market average was 173ppk.
Amongst the cull ewes, the heavier type ewes were still in a good demand selling to an average of £37. Ewes sold to a top price of £52 from Williams, Llwynonill Fawr.
One finished heifer, a Belgian Blue from Reynolds, Pentroydin, turning the scales at 470 kilos sold at £658 which equated to 140ppk.
