A good entry of almost 700 lambs forward at Whitland Mart last Tuesday, November 18, met a very good trade with the best lambs selling to an average price per kilo of 119.79p, which is well inline with the national trends. Lambs sold to a top price per kilo of 125p for 40 kilos from Davies, Morfa Farm, Mathry.

Top price per head was £57.20 for 51 kilos from Evans, Frondeg, Bwlchnewydd Road.

A small entry of cull ewes and rams numbering 173 in total again saw the greatest demand being for the heavier type ewes. Consequently these heavier ewes sold to an average of £39.25 and a top price of £55 from Lloyd, Maesyglyn, Ffostrasol.

Cull rams sold to a top price of £45 from Harries, Clover Hill Farm, Reynalton, and wethers peaked at £32.50 from Plumb, Plasycerdin, Llangynin.

An entry of almost 60 barren cows and overage cattle forward sold to a fast trade with the well fleshed cattle meeting a high demand. Cows sold to an average price per kilo of 79.68p or the equivalent of £515 per head. Top price per kilo was 119p for a 785 kilo Limousin from Roberts, Parke, Henllan Amgoed (selling at £935) and a 575 kilo Belgian Blue from Cole, St Twynnels Farm, St. Twynnels, and also a 635 kilo Simmental from Eynon, Plasybedw, Efailwen. Bulls sold to a top price of £680 for a 730 kilo Shorthorn from Wooley, Pencraig Isaf, Cwmbach.

Overage heifers sold to an average price per kilo of 118p or £736 per head, while steers levelled at 116p or £812 per head. Top price per kilo included 123p for a 635 kilo Belgian Blue from Prout Bros, Rowston Farm, Stackpole, and a top price per head , also from Prout Bros, included £875 for a 720 kilo Simmental steer. Prout Bros also sold heifers to a top price of £800 for a 685 kilo Belgian Blue.

A small entry of fat cattle forward selling to a good trade with heifers averaging 143ppk whilst steers sold to an average of 132p per kilo. Top price per kilo included 143.50p for a 650 kilo Limousin heifer from Merriman, Lower Coachlands Farm, Sageston.

Calves sold to a top price of £80 for a Friesian bull.
