A good entry of 791 lambs forward at Whitland Mart on Tuesday saw an trade resulting in an average of 120.42ppk per kilo.
Once again the greatest demand was for premium lambs, which was reflected in the top price per kilo of 129p for 39.50 kilos from Evans, Cwmcyneifion, Blaenycoed Road, Carmarthen.
From the 311 barren ewes forward, the greatest demand as usual was for the heavier types which resulted in an average of £41.12; lighter ewes levelled at £17.59. Top price per head was £53 from Monahan, Stember Farm House, Portfield Gate, Haverfordwest.
An entry of 31 barrens cows saw trade in line with the national trends and an average of 74.06ppk per kilo peaking at 106ppk for a 660 kilo Friesian from Walters, Nantycyw, Trelech.
Top price per head was £790 for a 750 kilo Holstein Friesian from Davies and Co, Llechclawdd, Cwmfelin Mynach. A 700 kilo Belgian Blue bull from Raymond, Swmbarch, Letterston, sold at £530.
From six fat cattle forward, steers sold to a top price per head of £1,034 for a 775 kilo Limousin from Brodie, Yerbeston Mountain, Kilgetty, and heifers to £752 for a 630 kilo Charolais from Rees, Gwernely, Llangyndeyrn.
In the calf ring, bull calves sold to £218 for a Limousin from Evans, Waterholmes Farm, Llawhaden.
